SPRINTS AND HURDLES EVENT GROUP LEAD
We are seeking a Sprints and Hurdles Event Group Lead and look forward to working with a candidate who will make the most of this exciting opportunity.
In a fast-paced sport and growing governing body there is a reasonable expectation that Event Group Leads take residency within Denmark and commit to flexible working arrangements including evenings and weekends to maximise contact time with athletes and coaches.
Purpose of the role
The Event Group Lead will:
- Lead the strategy and its implementation for Sprints, Hurdles and Relays to World Class level
- Ensure that all sprinters, hurdlers and relay teams are working towards World Class technical models

Basis: Full time
Department: Performance
Internal relationships: The Sprints and Hurdles Event Group Lead will work closely with the Sportschef and other Event Group Leads (endurance, throws, jumps and combined events) to align strategies and programmes within the Performance Pathway.
Other internal relationships include: External consultants, pathways staff; programme athlete-coach pairs; Danish Athletics staff; affiliated clubs and coaches.
External relationships: Team Denmark practitioners within the Sports Science and Sports Medicine (SSSM) team
Position Summary:
The Event Group Leads are responsible for developing and leading the strategy for Talent to Performance in their assigned Event Group. This will require the development and implementation of:
- Effective working relationships; Across the team of Event Group Leads, with Team Denmark SSSM practitioners and with Danish athletes, coaches and clubs
- Development and implementation of Danish Athletics training and competition programmes
- Technical and performance leadership throughout the Pathways programme
- Line management of external consultants

- Team Denmark (High Performance Level)

To achieve this, day to day tasks include:
- Formal meetings with athletes, their personal coaches and their key performance team members to influence coach and athlete decisions that drive a performance focused training environment and achieves performance outcomes.
- Line management of external consultants that are brought in for projects that require specific expertise
- Supporting local personal coaches of pathway athletes by providing mentoring / professional development opportunities.
- With other Event Group Leads, developing plans and curriculum for Futures, Performance Potential and Team Denmark programmes.
- Organising and facilitating periodised training camps throughout the non-competition season
- Attending local and national athletic competitions as required and keeping up to date with relevant athlete performances and rankings at local, national and international levels.
- Providing input into Danish Athletics selection meetings.
- Driving research and innovation where possible within event group, utilising support of Team Denmark knowledge hubs and research opportunities.
- Promoting and committing to a high-performance culture promoting Danish Athletics’ vision, philosophy and performance behaviours.
- Providing regular updates on progress of athletes and coaches with recommendations for further development of the Pathway programmes
- Participating in Danish Athletics meetings, forums, reporting requirements and activities where requested.
- Ensuring compliance with Danish Athletics policies and codes of conduct.
- Commitments to athletes currently coached can be considered.
- Coaching of national and international level athletes may, at times, be required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Requirements
- Danish Athletics, World Athletics (or similar) Accredited Athletics Coach Level 2 or above
- In good standing with Danish Athletics and its partners.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to establish good relationships
- Experience of working collaboratively and within a high-performance team
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience within a system that involves multiple performance services
- High level planning knowledge, design and implementation that demonstrates an advanced applied understanding for the physical, technical, tactical and psychological considerations for athletics performance
- Demonstrated high quality organisational, planning and communication skills (in coaching or similar type people-based environment), with a focus on guiding, supporting and monitoring athlete and coach performance
- Demonstrated ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition (e.g. time demands, conflict, multiple responsibilities, unforeseen challenges) and handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others
- Excellent understanding of the standards and demands on athletes and coaches within high performance sport in both a domestic and international context
- Knowledge of current event trends, competitors and performance planning strategies across the event group
Special Requirements
- Successful completion of Safeguarding course
- Successful completion of ‘Clean Sport’ course
- Successful completion of ‘Equality and Diversity’ course
